As you are reading this file your CD-ROM drive is already up and running. But anyway a few words of advice about CD-ROM drives:
Follow the CD-ROM drive manufacturers instruction for installing the drive and the appropriate software. Make sure that you have the latest version of the driver software and that it supports your current computer and software configuration fully. An incorrect CD-ROM driver can cause quite some trouble.
Make sure that your SCSI configuration is correct. Some basic rules: All attached SCSI devices have to have different SCSI addresses from 1 to 6. All devices should be powered up before you turn on the computer. The SCSI chain has to be terminated properly. Simple rule: Only the last device in the SCSI chain should be terminated. Be careful: Some devices (especially CD-ROM drives) are internally terminated, others have internal switches for termination. Read the documentation for each device carefully. Make sure that you use the correct terminator (the Mac fx uses a different one). If your SCSI chain is incorrect you could be in serious trouble (even destroyed disks).
PhotoLib‚Ñ¢ Software Installation
Mount the PhotoLib‚Ñ¢ CD-ROM.
First you should make sure that QuickTime‚Ñ¢ 1.6 is already installed on your system. If it is not move the Quicktime icon from the Utilities folder on the PhotoLib‚Ñ¢CD onto your System Folder.
Secondly copy the Aldus Fetch Browser and the Image Decompressor utility (from the "Utilities" folder) onto your hard disk. This requires approx. 1.5 MB of harddisk space.
If you use Adobe PhotoShop 2.0 and you do not have the Adobe JPEG plug-in installed copy this plug-in from the "Utilities" folder into the folder containing your PhotoShop preferences file.
Now you are ready to start. First, have a look at the PhotoLib‚Ñ¢ screen presentation by double-clicking "START HERE!".
Then drag a PhotoLib‚Ñ¢ catalog onto the Aldus Fetch Browser icon on your hard disk. This starts the Fetch Browser and opens the catalog.
WARNING! Do not double-click on a catalog. This would cause to start the Aldus Fetch Browser from the CD with resulting very slow speed!
Using the Fetch "File" menu item "Default Catalog" you should select the appropriate PhotoLib‚Ñ¢ catalog on the PhotoLib‚Ñ¢ CD-ROM. Then Edit the Fetch "Preferences".
Before using Aldus Fetch further please read the chapter "How to use PhotoLib‚Ñ¢ ".
If you wish to speed up your image database searches and if you have sufficient disk space you could copy a PhotoLib‚Ñ¢ catalog from the PhotoLib‚Ñ¢ CD onto your hard disk. You would have to change the default catalog in the "File" menu of the Aldus Fetch Browser appropriatly. This could require between 6 and 100 MB of disk space. Check the size of a catalog before copying!
